HAYS, Kan. -- After shattering a mirror, one Fort Hays State University art student placed the pieces onto a sculpture of a crawling being that is reaching for a yellow hanging bar as part of the "Visual Overload" art exhibition until Friday, Oct. 9, at Thirsty's Brew Pub and Grill's Annex Gallery, 2704 Vine.
"The broken mirror captures different moments," said Joel Dugan, assistant professor of art and design. "The art piece represents that we live to obtain a certain level of approval."
The art on display are student pieces from Dugan's spring 2015 Intro to Painting class. A news article about human attachment and dependency to cellphones inspired the student work.
"I asked the students to stimulate a similar sense of absorption and attraction," said Dugan.
The Annex Gallery features FHSU art year round.
