HAYS, Kan. – FHSU will kick off the construction of its newest capital project at Fort Hays State University with a celebration at Stroup Hall on Thursday, August 21, at 3 p.m. The expansion of Stroup Hall is expected to transform healthcare education on the FHSU campus. The line-up of speakers includes FHSU President Dr. Tisa Mason, Kansas State Senator Rick Billinger, Dean of the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Dr. Jeff Briggs, Department of Nursing Chair Dr. Jenny Manry, Department of Allied Health Chair Dr. Christa Beiker, and more.
Since opening its doors in 1981, Stroup Hall has been the cornerstone of nursing education at FHSU. Now, with increasing demand for healthcare professionals—especially in western Kansas—this expansion comes at a critical time.
The updated facility will bring the Departments of Nursing and Allied Health together under one roof, creating collaborative, state-of-the-art spaces for learning and training. With enrollment in our nursing and medical diagnostic imaging programs projected to grow by more than 65 percent and 40 percent, respectively, this expansion positions FHSU to meet the region’s evolving healthcare needs.
Thanks to $15.4 million in funding from the Kansas Legislature, the project will feature advanced simulation labs, modern classrooms, and realistic clinical environments, ensuring students receive hands-on training that mirrors real-world practice.
This exciting development reflects Fort Hays State University’s ongoing commitment to regional service, academic excellence, and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. We hope you’ll join us as we mark the beginning of this important chapter.
