Meet Your Instructor

Dr. Gregory Nelson

Dr. Gregory Nelson is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SCP). He began his HR career as the operations director for a Midwest consulting firm serving Fortune 500 clients, public-sector municipalities, and small businesses. Dr. Nelson has academic training in human resources, business management, data analytics, public affairs, and geoscience. He recently retired from one of the world's largest energy companies, where he worked as a cross-functional exploration team specialist, enterprise recruiter, collegiate intern mentor, and technology trainer. Dr. Nelson enjoys engaging students and working professionals interested in advancing their human resource and business management careers.

He has volunteered time with SHRM's collegiate focus groups, regularly attends the national SHRM conferences, and is currently a participant in a SHRM college outreach pilot program. In his free time, Dr. Nelson enjoys spending time with family, hiking, playing drums, and skiing on any of the great slopes of North America.

How much does the FHSU's prep course cost? What does that cost include?

Undergraduate Cost: $1,656.95

Graduate Cost: $1,928.19

That cost includes your printed SHRM Certification Prep materials, access to the online SHRM Certification Prep System, supplemental material in FHSU' Blackboard, and access to a SHRM-certified instructor to help you navigate the course. The cost of the prep course does not include the exam fees.

How much does it cost to take the exam?

What if I already own the SHRM Certification Prep System?

If you have already licensed the Prep System, we can simply add you to the spring 2027 course period. Please contact pce@fhsu.edu for assistance.

Are there any eligibility requirements needed to take the FHSU's prep course?

Learners must be admitted to FHSU as non-degree-seeking undergraduate or non-degree-seeking graduate student to complete the credit-bearing course. There are also eligibility requirements to take the SHRM exam.

How long is the prep course?

You have 16 weeks to work through all of the material with instructor support. The instructor may establish deadlines throughout the course term to keep you on track.

Do I attend sessions live?

No. You may study the material at your own pace; however, you will be required to submit activities throughout the 16-week period by a specific due date.

Optional live chats via Zoom are available with your instructor.

What if I don’t finish the prep course?

This is a credit-bearning course, meaning all required learning activities must be complete by the end of the term so you can receive a final grade.

Otherwise, you will have access to the printed SHRM prep materials forever, as well as access to the online SHRM Certification Prep System for one year. Access to supplemental material on FHSU Blackboard will close when the course ends.
