Welcome to the FHSU campus! Tap on a building picture to learn more about what you can find inside.
Sheridan Hall
Sheridan Hall was completed in 1917. Many people remember the iconic building with a swimming pool underneath a gym floor—known as the “Snake Pit.” The building was originally a multi-purpose facility housing a gymnasium, swimming pool, auditorium, convention hall, classrooms, and administrative offices.
Since 1991 it has housed the Beach-Schmidt Performing Arts Center, which seats close to 1,000 people. Some common events that take place here are Tiger Day, Freshmen Orientation, and our Encore Series.
Sheridan Hall also houses many administrative and student service offices, including the President’s and Provost’s offices. Other great resources here are the Student Affairs Office and FHSU Online.
McCartney Hall
McCartney Hall formerly held the Sternberg Museum and is now home to the W.R. and Yvonne Robbins College of Business & Entrepreneurship. The Robbins College includes the departments of Economics, Finance and Accounting, Management, and Applied Business Studies.
Picken Hall
Picken Hall was built in 1904 and renovated in 2010. Picken Hall was the first building to be constructed on the current FHSU campus and is one of the landmarks of the University. It is named after William Picken, the first President of FHSU.
This building is student-driven; here you will find important information about scholarships, admissions, transcripts, financial aid, and billing.
Albertson Hall
Albertson Hall houses the Departments of Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Social Work, along with the main office for the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. We have one of the best Cadaver Labs in the state of Kansas located on the Third Floor, which prepares our students with great hands-on experience in health-related fields. This building is also the home of one of the two largest refractor telescopes in the state of Kansas.
The Herndon Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic is located within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders here on the main floor. This Clinic provides services to the public in speech, language, and hearing exams as well as professional clinical training for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in speech-language pathology.
Our largest classroom is also found in this building. Our 141-seat lecture hall is the only classroom like it here, and it rarely becomes full. FHSU prides itself on the small class environment and we simply just don’t build classrooms that hold hundreds of students.
Rarick Hall
Rarick Hall is the largest academic hall on the FHSU campus. Rarick Hall has seen many renovations in recent years and renovations continue on the 2nd and 3rd floors. In Rarick, you’ll find the main office for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as well as a large number of academic departments.
Students will find themselves in this building for many of their general education classes. Departments of Sociology, Leadership Studies, and Criminal Justice can also be found in this building. Take note of the classroom size as you pass by! FHSU is proud to offer class sizes ranging from 20-25 students on average.
Rarick Hall is also home to the Tiger Stripes Lounge. This space serves as one of the multiple places offered on campus for students to relax, study, or work in groups. You will also notice a private study room just behind the main lounge area.
Center for Art & Design
The Schmidt Foundation Center for Art & Design is the newest academic building on campus, which opened in the fall of 2019. The open design concept of this building allows us to see creativity in action and encourages community and interdisciplinary collaboration in an inspiring space.
The two floors encompass all programs in our Art and Design department, except our sculpture program. The sculpture is located in the Center for Applied Technology.
You will notice the Schmidt Foundation Art & Design wall of masks! Take note that these are authentic 18th century masks that were donated to FHSU! Many museums, including the Smithsonian, have inquired about displaying these masks in their museum spaces.
Center for Student Success
This is a one-of-a-kind, one-stop shop for students. Our first floor consists of our Tiger Welcome Center, academic advising, tutoring, and career services.
The second floor is the home of our Student Government Association, student engagement, and collaborative learning spaces for student involvement.
The third floor houses our Tiger Health and Wellness services such as student health, our pharmacy, and counseling services.
It’s a 15-million-dollar facility that was initiated by our students, the Fischli-Wills family, and the university. This is a unique building and one of the few across the country that is totally student-focused.
Center for Applied Technology
The Center for Applied Technology is home to the Applied Technology Department along with the Art and Design Sculpture program. It has 58,000 square feet of classrooms, technology labs, and collaborative spaces.
This building consists of computer CAD labs, instructional & graphics labs, STEM labs, woodworking labs, metalworking labs, plastics labs, power & energy labs, robotics labs, construction management labs, sculpture studios, and metal foundry studios.
This department has numerous opportunities for hands-on learning, and students complete a semester-long internship. Our students in this department are in such demand that they have a 100% success rate in finding jobs.
Stroup Hall
This building is the home of the Department of Nursing. It was renovated in the spring of 2019 and provides the latest technology, including simulation mannequins that cry, bleed, die, and even give birth—all for the benefit of hands-on learning for medical procedures and patient care. FHSU’s Nursing program is one of the most respected in the Midwest which features a 100% placement consistently. FHSU offers undergraduate, graduate, and a Doctorate of Nursing.
Malloy Hall
Music and Theatre Department is located in Malloy Hall. The Music department is very active; the marching band performs at all the home football games, and there are lots of student productions held in the Felten-Start theater right in the front doors of Malloy Hall. The music department includes both instrumental and choral opportunities, and you can get scholarships for these even if you are not a music major.
Hammond Hall
Hammond Hall was completed in 2014. It is home to the Informatics Department as well as the Tiger Media Network which includes our radio and TV studios. FHSU has it’s very own student lead radio station, known as The Roar, which is played throughout the Memorial Union and other various places on campus.
Informatics involves anything to do with Technology. Whether you're a student who likes to create content, build apps or web interfaces, secure, configure, or troubleshoot complex networks, Informatics has a major for you!
The video and audio studios in Hammond Hall are for students to create content that is published on the Tiger Media Network.
Tomanek Hall
Tomanek Hall is the home of the Chemistry, Geosciences, and Physics Departments. Many of our Physics, Chemistry, and Biology majors gain admittance to the country’s top Medical and Engineering Schools.
You will notice Al the Allosaurus - a replica of what the dinosaur would actually look like! You will see a display case with Al’s actual bones, which were excavated from an active dig site in Utah, back in 1986. This goes to show the hands on learning experiences students receive at FHSU! Students are still going on active dig sites today!
Cunningham Hall
Department, and Radiologic Technology and Medical Diagnostic Imaging programs.
The Intramural office is also found in Cunningham. FHSU has one of the largest intramural programs in the Midwest. They offer hundreds of activities from board games, video game tournaments, scrapbooking classes, and league Volleyball and Basketball.
Forsyth Library
Whether you are looking for a place to study, need software or technology equipment to complete a project, or working on a research assignment the Forsyth Library and Learning Commons provides spaces, technology, and resources to help you succeed.
Forsyth Library renovation will be completed in 2026. With the assistance of federal grants and generous donors, FHSU will provide one of the most innovative and collaborative learning spaces around Kansas. We are excited that you all will be able to utilize this facility once completed.
Memorial Union
Serves as the “Community Center for the campus.”
New Students will take their photo and pick up their Student ID on the second floor in the Union main office.
