Faculty-Student Mentor Program
Achieving career success involves more than just academic guidance while in college; it requires a multifaceted approach. The Department of Applied Business Studies (ABS) is pleased to offer a faculty-student mentoring program to bridge the gap between academic achievements and career aspirations. The program offers all online and on-campus undergraduate students a comprehensive support system that addresses both their immediate academic needs and their long-term professional goals. This program is tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. It may involve group, peer, and/or individual mentoring activities with department faculty mentors and possibly alumni, industry professionals, and/or current students. Students are encouraged to engage in the type of mentoring activities that best fit their needs.
This page is designed to provide information and resources for students as they navigate the college experience and prepare for their future career.
Goals of the ABS Mentoring Program (ABS-MP):
- Enhance Academic Success: Complement the guidance provided by professional advisors with faculty insights, making the academic journey more engaging and tailored to individual student needs.
- Career Development: Bridge the gap between academic studies and career entry by providing students with industry insights, professional networking opportunities, and career planning.
- Personal Growth: Foster an environment where students are encouraged to develop important soft skills such as leadership, communication, and critical thinking, which are essential for both personal and professional success.
- High-Impact Practice Engagement: Encourage and facilitate student involvement in high-impact practices (i.e., service-learning, undergraduate research, internships, etc) providing a platform for innovation, engagement, creativity, and scholarly inquiry.
- Community Building: Strengthen the sense of community within the university by fostering meaningful connections among students, faculty, and alumni, thereby enriching the educational journey for all involved.

Meeting Your Mentor
Group Mentoring Opportunities
The ABS-MP will host various group mentoring activities throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to regularly check the Department of Applied Business Studies social media pages (Facebook or Instagram) and FHSU student email for specific dates, times, and locations for upcoming events.
Peer Mentoring Opportunities
Peer mentoring will be provided if it meets the student’s needs. This may take place during a group mentoring activity or a more intentional connection to best serve the student’s goals. Students can visit with their faculty mentor, specifically, if they desire a student peer mentor.
