Presentation topics overview:
Career Development Overview
What can Career Development do for me? Students are often unaware of the support and resources provided by our office to help guide them in professionalism and their job/internship search. Students will gain a snapshot of all the resources, professional development opportunities, and guidance our office provides to assist them with career readiness.
Career Ready Competencies
Career readiness of college students is an important issue in ensuring students are prepared to transition from college to career. The National Association of Colleges and Employers developed a definition of career readiness and identified eight competencies associated with career readiness. In this presentation, students will learn about the necessary skills to prepare them for a successful entry into the workforce.
Resume/Cover Letter Writing
This workshop provides students with tips and resources for creating a professional resume and cover letter. Students will assess their skills and abilities and learn how to format their documents to be a more marketable candidate.
Networking, Interviewing, Professional Dress
The job search process can often be overwhelming for students. Career Development offers opportunities and resources to help them make connections and prepare for the interview process and their future. This workshop will cover strategies for networking, interviewing, professional communication and etiquette, and introduce students to our online interview training system, Big Interview.
Major and Career Exploration Overview
Choosing the right major can be exciting, but it’s normal to have questions during the process. In this presentation, we’ll highlight helpful resources such as FHSUMajors.com, major and career exploration appointments, UNIV 100: Major and Career Exploration, and the 'What Can I Do With a Major In...' website, along with additional resources to help your students familiarize themselves with available assistance.
Understanding your personality is essential for achieving success in college and beyond. This presentation allows students to complete the TypeFocus personality assessment (similar to the Myers-Briggs), provides an overview of the 16 personality types, and discusses the traits and strengths of each type and their impact on major and career exploration as well as college success.
