Master of Science in Education with an Emphasis in Chemistry
Overview
The Master of Science in Education (MSE) with an Emphasis in Chemistry is a degree offered by the Chemistry Department and the Department of Advanced Education. This degree is designed for a professional with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education or chemistry who seeks to obtain the advanced training in chemistry and education to teach at the college level. The curriculum consists of a 15 credit hour of advanced education core curriculum, a 3 credit hour chemical education course, and 18 credit hours of advanced chemistry content. It is designed to satisfy the requirements set forth by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for instructors to teach college-level coursework. Flexibility is built into the MSE (Chemistry) program to accommodate the working professional as approximately 90% of the curriculum can be completed online. The remaining coursework contains a hands-on laboratory component which requires participation in a two week on-campus session in two separate summers.
