About Carnegie Community Engagement Classification
The Community Engagement Classification is an elective and institutional classification granted by the Carnegie Foundation. The process of application is voluntary however required a significant effort towards achieving its mission and set goals. Civic Learning and Engagement at Fort Hays State University work resillently in gathering community data and document in achiving the following set goals:
- Teaching and learning
- Research and scholarship
- Outreach and engagement
Why Community Engagement with Carnegie
Higher educational institutions like Fort Hays State University have various way to engage with it local community member and partners which includes the elective community engagement classification. This classification consists of two parts:
What it is/how it is done: Community engagement is a relationship that describe the collaboration between our educational institution and it community which include the state or region with an effective medium of communication for the purpose of exchange of knowlege that will benefit both parties.
What it actually does/purpose: The primary purpose of community engagement partnering with higher educational institution knowledge and resources and that of the public and private sector is to improve on the quality of research, teaching and learning while engaging citizens, address critical societal issues, reinforce democratic good value and civic responsibility and improving the well-being of other.
Community Enagaement Courses
These are acamedic courses thats relates to community components and are used to connect to the community throught acamedic learning, community based learning to connect with the community and solve critical societal issue that impact the general public. These course serves as a means of dialogue and help to create a positive impact to the society.
