The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Fort Hays State University provides students with applied learning through clinical experiences at the undergraduate and graduate level on and off campus.

As a student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, you will:
- Begin your professional development by participating in student organizations during your first semester, giving you early insight into the major and the profession
- Gain practical, real-world experience with clients as an undergraduate through the modern, comprehensive Herndon Clinic
- Enjoy small classes and learning alongside a supportive, close-knit group of students
- Join the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and be involved in the organization's activities in the community
- Work closely with faculty in courses, labs and clinical experiences
- As a graduate student, you’ll participate in external clinic experiences at schools, health care facilities and community organizations in northwest Kansas
- Graduate students are involved in research under the direction of one of the doctoral faculty members
