- The Marcia Bannister Fund for Excellence will benefit the Department of Communication Disorders through faculty and staff development, graduate student scholarships and assistantships, and will help expand services of the Geneva Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic
Speech Language Pathology Master of Science Program named “One of the Best of 2018” by www.speechpathologygraduateprograms.org - The Herndon Clinic received a $250,000 grant from the Kansas Masonic Foundation. As a result, free adult hearing screenings will be offered fall an spring in six western Kansas communities. In addition, services for adults with swallowing difficulties, dysphagia, will be offered in several other Kansas communities. Both services will be provided by graduate students from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the FHSU Herndon Clinic.

- Fall 2020: Faculty Emeritus, Marla Staab, was a 2020 Alumni Award Recipient
- Summer 2020: Dr. Frederick Britten retired from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Fall 2019: Tara Marshall received the Honors of the Associate Award for her contributions, leadership and professoinal excellence at the 2019 KSHA Conference
- Spring 2019: Tara Marshall and Kiedra Hickert awarded the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences Faculty Teaching Grant Award
- Spring 2019: Dr. Britten awarded Outstanding Graduate Advisor
- Spring 2019: Dr. Ellis promoted to Associate Professor and tenured
- Spring 2019: Dr. Porter, Dr. Britten, Jacque Jacobs and Stephanie Tiernan presented at the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders national conference
Student Accomplishments
- Fall 2019: Mollie Reves received the Dixie Heinrich Servant Leadership Award at the 2019 KSHA Conference
- Fall 2019: Lauren Oldham, Mollie Reves, Janae Powell, Amy Schneider and Tanner Staab all received the Margaret Byrne Sarricks Scholarship at the 2019 KSHA Conference
- Spring 2019: Undergraduate Remington Behrends awarded Torch Award
- 2019: 12 students accepted to present poster presentations to ASHA conference in Orlando, FL
- 2018: Students nominated for the Torch Award: Janae Powell, Peyton Broeker, and Lauren Oldham
