Active Aging

The Active Aging program, sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Performance, aims to improve the health and wellness of Hays-area community members. You can get in shape, make new friends, or add variety to your exercise routine at a low cost. Regular exercise strengthens your heart and lungs, helps you prevent chronic diseases, and can improve your mood.

Three unique fitness programs, staffed by trained students supervised by faculty members, meet the needs of a range of community members. If you are over fifty years old, the Aquacise and Personal Fitness programs offer you the chance to energize your fitness regimen. Work one-on-one with a personal trainer, or spend some time in the pool for low-impact exercises.

The Neuromuscular Wellness Center, formerly called the Stroke Recovery and Wellness Center, provided customized fitness programs for anyone with significant neurological disorders, such as stroke survivors, paralysis, muscle spasticity and multiple sclerosis.

Under the guidance of our certified instructors, FHSU juniors, seniors, and graduate students work with you to reach your fitness goals. After taking extensive courses in the field, these students have earned faculty members' confidence in their abilities. While you get healthier, they gain the experience to meet their professional goals.
