Lifeguards
Responsible for overall patron safety in and out of the water, along with inspecting equipment and facility for safety. All hired staff is expected to look and act professionally and is responsible for wearing staff apparel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for patron safety in and out of the water
- Assist director in administration of the activities in the FHSU IM-REC department
- Dress appropriately in proper uniform
- Attend weekly meeting
- Arrive 10 minutes early to all assignments
- Maintain a safe environment for all users
- Use lifesaving techniques learned in certification when appropriate
- Enforce pool rules and regulations
- Maintain organized and clean office
- Know policy and procedures for emergencies
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid
- If not American Red Cross, the opportunity to do a crossover certification will be provided.
- Current FHSU student
- Work-study recipients preferred
- Previous lifeguard experience is preferred but not required

- Adequate people skills

- Able to handle difficult situations calmly and effectively
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Mandatory:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid
- Optional:
- Pool Operator License
- Water Safety Instructor
- Aquacise Instructor Certificate
- Physical demands are met through lifeguard training in addition to attending all in-service training sessions given by the Aquatics Director.
- Pass FHSU lifeguard skills test
- Light lifting
- Walking and possible running
Work Environment/Environmental Conditions
- Pool can be quite warm at times
- Patron interaction will depend on groups using the pool
- Facility and equipment meet all standard qualifications
Hours & Pay
Typically these positions range in hours from 10-20 hours per week. Pay is consisent across campus at $10/hour.
