Management and Development Center at FHSU to offer spring workshop series

"Activating Change," a high-energy, interactive workshop, will kick off the Management and Development Center's spring workshop series on Wednesday, Jan. 28. It will run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the Stouffer Lounge, room 222, in the Memorial Union on the Fort Hays State University campus.
"Activating Change" will identify the critical practices that drive change in professional organizations. The workshop will teach individuals at all levels of the organization, from front-line employees to top-level management, practical methods to manage change and how to assess their personal change capability.
Ruth Bealer, Human Resources Director for the accounting firm Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball, Chartered, will facilitate the workshop. Bealer is certified as a senior professional in human resources. Registration for the workshop is $119.
The next workshop in the series, "Effective Presentation Skills: Public Speaking & PowerPoint Design" will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the Trails Room in the Memorial Union. Lunch will be provided. The workshop will focus on effective public speaking skills, including presentation strategies and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop and will have an opportunity to practice giving presentations.
Dr. Kathy Kelley, assistant professor of communication studies at FHSU, and Ahmed Lachheb, instructional technology support specialist at FHSU, will facilitate the workshop and provide feedback for participant's presentations. Registration is $229 and is due on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
"A Leader's Guide to Managing Performance" will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the Stouffer Lounge in the Memorial Union. Tom Zerfas, senior manager of Human Resources at Sunflower Electric Power Corporation, Hays, will lead the workshop. Zerfas is also certified as a senior professional in human resources.
"A Leader's Guide" will provide supervisors and managers with concrete strategies in order to optimize workforce performance and minimize turnover within their organization. Registration is $119 and is due on Wednesday, March 4.
Tom Lippert, Smart Fulfillment Coordinator for Forsyth Library, will facilitate "Customer Service from the Heart" from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Trails Room in the Memorial Union. The workshop is based on the book "Simple Truths of Service: Inspired by Johnny the Bragger" by Ken Blanchard.
Participants will learn how to demonstrate "excellent, heart-centered and authentic customer service." This workshop is designed for all employees at all levels within an organization. Registration is $119 and is due on Wednesday, April 8.
The last workshop of the series, "Project Management Scope & Definition," will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5-6, at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, 3000 Sternberg Drive. Lunch will be provided.
"Project Management" is a two-day seminar offered in conjunction with Wichita State University's Management Development. Participants will work in teams to develop a project charter, gather requirements, write a scope statement and create a work breakdown structure. DeAnn Sullivan, instructor for WSU's Center for Management Development, will facilitate the workshop.
Registration for "Project Management" is $795 and is due on Wednesday, April 29.
Each participant who completes a workshop will receive a completion certificate.
FHSU employees in Academic or Student Affairs are eligible for discounted registration fees. Hays Area Chamber of Commerce members will receive a 15% discount on workshops, excluding "Project Management Scope & Definition."
