Students to present campaign for education project in Mexico
05/07/15
Students in COMM641 Public Relations Management & Campaign Design will present their work on the Envision Volcanes Campaign on Monday, May 11, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. in Stouffer Lounge. Refreshments will be provided.
The Envision Volcanes crowdfunding campaign was originally created by the students in the Writing for Public Relations class in the Department of Communication Studies and the Diverse Learners class in Teacher Education in November 2014. This campaign aims to raise funds to support the teachers and children of the Volcanes Community Education Project (VCEP).
The VCEP is a non-government funded English and computer program free of charge for students in the impoverished community of Volcanes in Puerta Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. The project is designed to help students develop key qualifications for future employment opportunities in the nearby and glamorous city of Puerto Vallarta. Established in 2011, the program has striven to provide the best education for students who attend the additional classes on a voluntary basis. The VCEP suffers from low teacher funding, and educators are forced to work multiple jobs or resign.
This interdisciplinary project is supported by the Tilford Group Grant, which promotes the FHSU motto of "Forward Thinking, World Ready." and provides opportunities for co-curricular diversity and international programming through faculty, staff and university departments.
