HAYS, Kan. -- Families attending Frost Fest on Sunday, Dec. 6, will have the opportunity to support the families of children with cancer by buying gingerbread houses and T-shirts from Stripes for Hope from 5 to 7 p.m. in Indigo Café, 111 W. 8th St. in Downtown Hays.
Stripes for Hope, previously Up 'til Dawn, is a Fort Hays State University student organization that raises funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn., as well as other cancer-related causes. The organization has helped raise more than $200,000 for the hospital over the course of its history.
Stripes for Hope will sell gingerbread houses for $5 and T-shirts saying "Cancer Sucks" for $10. The T-shirts come in a wide variety of colors, styles and sizes. All proceeds go to St. Jude Hospital.
St. Jude Hospital treats childhood cancer by researching cures and treating children. Families of patients do not pay for treatment, travel, housing or food, which is made possible by individual contributions. Its research has helped push the survival rate of childhood cancer from 20 percent in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.
