Times Talks
Times Talks are short, informational presentations about current political and social issues that take place regularly throughout the semester. These presentations are given by students, faculty or staff who are experts in that area. Free pizza and salad are provided to the first 20 attendees at each event. The presentations take place in the South Study Space of Forsyth Library. This program is made possible through a generous partnership with The New York Times.
Constitution Day
Constitution Day is held on the anniversary of the official signing of the US Constitution to celebrate the document that shaped the nation. Students are invited to attend a presentation about the Constitution where they will receive pocket Constitutions and Constitution Day t-shirts. In 2004, Congress designated September 17th each year as " Constitution Day and Citizenship Day." This event at FHSU each year would not be possible without the support of the Student Government Association.
National Voter Registration Day
On September 25th, ADP hosts an all-day voter registration table in the Memorial Union to encourage students to become active citizens and vote in their local, state, and national elections. Kansas residents are able to register online and out-of-state students are able to take federal forms that they can mail to their county clerk.
Tiger Talkback
Weekly Tiger Talkback questions promote civil discourse about current political issues. Questions are usually connected to a New York Times article to promote the readership program which provides students with access to a free New York Times subscription using their student email. Students can respond to the question and to their peers on Twitter @tigertalkback or on the board in the Memorial Union.
Poster Project
The Poster Project is an art contest that creates an opportunity for students to express political ideals and opinions through graphic design. The event prompts students to use their talents to express themselves and to think about current political questions from a unique perspective. The art is displayed in the Memorial Union and the campus community can vote on their favorite works. This event is made possible through a partnership with Art and Design Programs.
