Transfer Agreement and Articulation Guide
The Transfer Agreement and Articulation Guide has been developed to facilitate the transition of students with an associate degree or minimum number of transferable hours from accredited colleges and universities to Fort Hays State University.
Students still may be required to take freshman or sophomore courses to meet degree or graduation requirements. Transfer students who have not completed an associate degree may transfer Fort Hays State University hours back to the community college based on the community college's approval in order to complete the associate degree.

Students who enter FHSU for the first time in Fall Semester 2022
General Education Requirements:
• All students, regardless of classification, who have not completed a minimum of 36 credit hours must complete the FHSU CORE program.
• Transfer students from any regionally-accredited 4-year institution who have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours must complete the KBOR system-wide general education program requirements.
Students from KBOR institutions
• Transfer students who have completed an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) program at a Kansas community college will have fulfilled all FHSU general education requirements.
• Transfer students who have not completed an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) program from a Kansas community college and have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours must complete the KBOR system-wide general education program requirements.
• Transfer students who complete an AA or AS program through the Kansas Board of Regents’ Reverse Transfer Program within one year of matriculation to FHSU will have fulfilled all FHSU general education requirements upon receipt of an official transcript indicating conferral of the credential.
Students from outside Kansas
• Transfer students who have completed an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) program from a regionally-accredited institution outside of Kansas must complete the KBOR system-wide general education program requirements.
Other Academic Requirements
• Transfer students must fulfill all academic requirements to complete the intended program of study.
Students who have entered Fort Hays State University prior to Fall Semester 2022
For students already matriculated to Fort Hays State University PRIOR to Fall Semester 2022 with 45 transferable hours or an associate degree who have not met the transfer articulation distribution requirement may complete the transfer and articulation agreement at FHSU or fulfill the FHSU general education program.

Requirements
1. Students must meet the following requirements:
A minimum of 45 credit hours of general education with distribution in the following fields:
- Twelve (12) hours of Basic Skills courses, including:
- 6 hours of English Composition
- 3 hours of Speech Communication
- 3 hours of college level mathematics
- Twelve (12) hours of Humanities courses (performance/studio courses are excluded) from at least three of the following disciplines:
- Art
- Theater
- Philosophy
- Modern Languages
- Music
- History
- Literature
- Twelve (12) hours of Social and Behavioral Science courses from at least three of the following disciplines:
- Sociology
- Psychology
- Political Science
- Economics
- Geography
- Anthropology
- Nine (9) hours of Natural and Physical Science courses from at least two disciplines (lecture with lab).
- All transfer students must fulfill a three-hour upper division integrative course which fulfills a university requirement.
Points of Clarification
- All students completing a teacher education program at the university shall satisfy the FHSU general education requirements or the transfer and articulation agreement.
- Credit for equivalent technical courses may be granted by departmental examination at the receiving institution.
FHSU adheres to and honors the terms of the Kansas Board of Regents' Transfer and Articulation Agreement with Kansas community colleges.
FHSU Online has Transfer and Articulation Agreements with many two- and four-year institutions throughout the country.

- Which general education program will I be assigned?
- FHSU CORE Program
- All new (as of Fall 2022) undergraduate students who have not completed a minimum of 36 credit hours.
- KBOR General Education Program
- Undergraduate transfer students, regardless of classification, who have completed a minimum of 36 credit hours from any regionally accredited institution with the exception noted regarding the KS Community College Guarantee.
- Kansas Community College Guarantee
- Any undergraduate transfer students, regardless of classification, who have completed an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) program at a Kansas community college will have fulfilled all general education requirements.
- Undergraduate transfer students, regardless of classification, who complete an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) program through the Kansas Board of Regents’ Reverse Transfer Program within one year of matriculation to FHSU will have fulfilled all general education requirements. This does NOT include AAS, AGS, ADNP, or other programs that are NOT AA or AS degrees.
- NOTE: All students must still complete all academic requirements, including major cognates, to fulfill the intended program of study.
- Current students (prior to Fall 2022) at FHSU will continue in their current General Education program.
- FHSU CORE Program
- What kinds of credit will FHSU accept for the FHSU CORE or KBOR General Education programs?
- Credit for Prior Learning, including military credit, receives a grade notation of CR. Credit earned at FHSU or when accepted in transfer with the CR grade notation will fulfill general education requirements.
- Pass (P) / Fail (F) Courses – Courses when accepted in transfer from other institutions using Pass/Fail or Pass/No Credit will fulfill general education requirements. Departmental requirements for a “C” or “B” grade may not be considered met.
- Satisfactory (S) / Unsatisfactory (U) Courses – Courses when accepted in transfer from other institutions using Satisfactory (S) /Unsatisfactory (U) will fulfill general education requirements. Departmental requirements for a “C” or “B” grade may not be considered met.
- What general education program do I follow if I have already completed a bachelor’s degree?
- Students who hold a bachelor level degree from a regionally accredited institution who seek a second bachelor level degree from FHSU are considered to have fulfilled the general education requirements. Cognate courses, although normally used to fulfill general education requirements, are a major requirement and completion of cognate courses will be required if they were not taken as part of the coursework for the previous degree.

KAMS students who complete the KAMS program after Fall 2022 and enter as a degree seeking FHSU student will be required to complete the FHSU CORE program.

- Will any of my transfer credits count in the FHSU CORE?
- Yes, the courses that fulfill FHSU CORE requirements are the courses listed in program, designated KBOR systemwide transfer equivalents, or transfer courses that the department has approved as equivalent.
- Can any of my transfer credits count towards both the FHSU Core and major requirements?
- Yes, if the appropriate academic department has determined the credits to be equivalent to a course listed on the FHSU CORE and within the major.
- Can the language requirement required for the Bachelor of Arts degree also count toward the FHSU CORE?
- Yes.

KBOR General Education
- Will any of my transfer credits count in the KBOR General Education Program?
- Yes, if the credits fall within the designated disciplines listed on the guide.
- Can upper-division transfer credits count in the KBOR General Education Program?
- Yes, both lower-division and upper-division undergraduate credits can count if the credits fall within the designated disciplines listed on the guide.
- Can any of my transfer credits count towards both the KBOR General Education Program and major requirements?
- Yes, if the appropriate academic department has determined the credits to be equivalent to a course within the major and that discipline is also listed on the KBOR General Education Program guide.
- Is there any flexibility with regard to the disciplines that are accepted in each category?
- Yes, there is flexibility for the Arts & Humanities, Natural & Physical Sciences, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Institutionally Designated Area categories. Courses would need to be routed and approved by the Assistant Provost/Dean of the Graduate School.
- Can Interpersonal Communication count in the Oral Communication section?
- The KBOR program specifies COMM 100 with no alternative pathways. Interpersonal Communication will not fulfill the requirement.
