Types of Financial Assistance

Grants: Grant aid typically comes from federal and state governments and does not have to be repaid (other conditions may apply). In order to apply for grant funds, you must complete the FAFSA. For additional information and a listing of available grants, click here.

Loans: Loan funds are available to students and parents to help pay for college expenses and must be repaid. Applying for most loans requires completion of the FAFSA. For additional information and a listing of available loans, click here.

Scholarships: Scholarships are available from various sources, including FHSU, the State of Kansas, and community organizations. Scholarships usually have specific eligibility requirements and have various application processes. The deadline to apply for FHSU scholarships is February 15th. For additional information on scholarships, click here. Examples of awards available to transfer students are listed below:

  • Transfer Student Awards: Up to $1,500 for qualifying new on-campus transfer students. Students must have completed 30 credit hours with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. New transfer students must complete the scholarship application in order to be considered. Transfer student awards are based on the scholarship application process. Students must be a new, full-time, fall semester student enrolling in on-campus classes.
  • PTK (Phi-Theta Kappa) All-Academic Team Member Awards: Up to $4,500 for new on-campus transfer students. Students must be recognized as an All-Academic Team member from their respective community college. Students must be new, full-time, fall semester student enrolling in on-campus classes.
  • Departmental Awards: Many academic departments offer scholarships for on-campus and online students declaring a major in their area. For more information, please contact the department directly or click here.
  • Athletic Scholarships: Tiger Athletics offers scholarships to student-athletes who plan to participate in collegiate sports at FHSU. Contact Tiger Athletics for more information. 
  • External Awards: Local organizations, companies, and private donors also award scholarships for FHSU students. Eligibility requirements vary depending upon the scholarship. For a listing, click here.

Student Employment: Students may find employment through the Federal Workstudy Program, the Departmental Job Program, or the Kansas Career Workstudy Program. For additional information, click here.

Military Education Benefits: Military service offers an array of education benefits. Recipients must complete various requirements to be awarded and continue receiving aid. For additional information, click here.

 


Application Process

Eligibility: To be considered eligible for financial aid at FHSU, students must meet specific criteria. Please visit the General Eligibility website for a complete list.

Application Process: To apply for aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The FHSU priority deadline is March 1st. Tuition & Costs

FHSU prides itself on quality education at an affordable cost. Tuition and fees are approved by the Kansas Board of Regents each year.
