Online Student Scholarships
To receive this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Kansas resident with financial need
- Be admitted to FHSU
Full and part-time students, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, may apply.
To qualify for this $500 scholarship, you must:
- Be a new student who has never attended FHSU
- Be a fully online student
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who does not reside in the state of Kansas; Kansas residents may apply for the Kansas Need-Based scholarship here.
- Be degree-seeking
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on cumulative high school or undergraduate coursework
Full-time and part-time students, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, may apply.
The Kansas Adult Learner grant offers up to $3000/semester to students age 25 or older.
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Be a Kansas resident
- Be 25 years of age or older at the time the student's first course that is funded by a grant begins
- Have a family household income of:
- $100,000 or less for a family of one or two
- $150,000 or less for a family of three
- $150,000 + $4,800 per additional family member beyond three
- Enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours in an eligible program
Additionally, to accept funds, you must agree to:
- Graduate from your degree program within 48 months of first receiving the grant
- Commence living and working in Kansas for two consecutive years upon graduation. The work/live obligation begins no more than 6 months after graduation
Full-time and part-time students, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, may apply.

Phi Theta Kappa members could receive a $500/year scholarship. Recipients must be new full-time transfer students enrolling fully online. Students who already hold a bachelor's degree, are non-U.S. citizens, or are part-time are not eligible. This scholarship is renewable for a second year with a 3.3 cumulative FHSU GPA. Apply for the PTK Scholarship through the FHSU Scholarship Application, which opens on September 15 of each year and closes on February 15 of each year.
Phi Theta Kappa Kansas All-Academic Team members are automatically awarded a $750/year scholarship. This scholarship is renewable for one additional year with a 3.3 cumulative FHSU GPA.

To receive the Sunflower Start Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Kansas resident
- Be a new FHSU undergraduate or graduate student who has never attended Fort Hays State University
- Must be registered in at least three credit hours
- Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
FHSU Scholarship Application
The FHSU Scholarship Application opens on September 15 of each year and closes on February 15 of each year.
