Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program - At a Glance

To receive a Master of Science in Counseling, students must complete 60 credit hours of coursework, while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program provides the 60 credit hours of coursework that is required for application to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Kansas. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program shares their core courses with the School Counseling Program. In addition to the core courses, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program has five additional advanced clinical courses designed to give students exposure to advanced theories and skills with an emphasis in Couples and Family Counseling. Students must also complete a Practicum and Internship at an approved Practicum and Internship site. These sites are adaptable to location and students' needs.

Recommended Course Sequence

Students need to contact their advisor at the beginning of the program to plan their course sequence and program of study. A recommended course sequence will be developed to fit the unique needs of the student. Students are recommended to consult the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Course Rotation. For descriptions of the courses, please see the University Catalog.
