MSE Curriculum and Instruction: Adult Teaching & Learning
Program Overview
The MSE in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Adult Teaching and Learning is designed to train career and technical education (CTE) instructors and content area teachers working with adult populations in community colleges, technical schools, workforce development, and continuing education settings.
Rationale
Teaching adults fundamentally differs from teaching children. Our curriculum is grounded in andragogy, adult learning theory, and prepares instructors to honor students' prior knowledge, connect learning to immediate application, and support self-directed growth. Whether teaching welding techniques or algebraic reasoning, graduates will understand how adults learn best and how to design instruction that respects their goals, challenges them, and builds on their strengths. Special consideration is given to leverage generational diversity to adapt teaching methods to engage learners across the age spectrum.
