Roll Out the Rain Barrels - Spring 2016

Rain Barrels S2014

Since spring 2009 more than 5,200 rain barrels have been constructed and distributed in Kansas and throughout the U.S by the "Roll Out the Rain Barrel" project. The Rain Barrel Fact Sheet explains how rain water can be collected from the roof with the rain barrel and used to water your landscape.

Students in the Home Horticulture course at FHSU will be constructing rain barrels (55 gal) for the public on Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Hays at the KSU Agricultural Research Center (refer to attached poster). This service-learning project is in cooperation with Stacie Minson, Smoky Hill River Kanopolis Lake Watershed specialist. The rain barrels are available for $26 each (covers freight and material costs) - limit 4 barrels/address. Pickup is from 5 to 7 pm at the KSU Agricultural Research Center.

Please complete the rain barrel registration form and return to Stacie Minson at the address on the form with a check made to Ellsworth County Conservation District. The event is on first-come, first-reserved basis - so reserve your barrel(s) soon. Barrels must be picked up from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 7 at the KSU Ag Research Center. There will be no delivery available or early/late pick-up.

Questions may be directed to Stacie Minson at or 785-769-3297.

Watch students from the Home Horticulture class construct rain barrels in spring 2014 at the KSU Agricultural Experiment Station (see video below).
