April Students of the Month
Keira Buchholz
Keira is a first-time freshman from Cimarron, Ks! She is majoring in Medical Diagnostic Imaging and is currently pursuing a leadership studies certificate to pair with her degree! Keira was very active in high school, leading several clubs and organizing projects. During her time in high school, she developed an appreciation and passion for leadership. The leadership program at FHSU inspired her to take an initiative and immerse herself in the course work.
“Both my Discovering Leadership and Introduction to Leadership Behaviors classes have helped me to take skills I already possess and build upon them to create my own leadership brand. I hope that these developed skills allow me to lead others throughout my career and future.”
Outside of classes, Keira is involved in several Christian young adult groups. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, outdoor activity, working out, reading, and listening to music!
CONGRATULATIONS, Keira!
Zawadi Colbert
Zawadi is an online student originally from Albany, Georgia. He is currently living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in his senior year here at FHSU, working towards a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership. Zawadi stays involved in his local community through the CARE community at a Hilton Hotel & Resorts property. This property partners with local charities on initiatives like donation drives, guest engagement programs, and volunteer opportunities. Zawadi decided to join the Leadership programs to bring a non-traditional student perspective to the table. Since working in the Food and Beverage management withing the hospitality industry, he has learned how important strong leadership really is. Zawadi decided to major in Organizational Leadership to grow, to lead more effectively, and to help build teams that work with intention.
“ My favorite leadership class that I have taken is LRDS 310 with Professor Kathy Nordyke because it gave me the chance to take something I was passionate about and actually put it into action. In LDRS 310, I was able to identify a real issue in the community like food insecurity and work directly with a local organization to create and carry out a plan to help address it. It was hands-on, collaborative, and pushed me to think creatively and strategically. I also learned a lot about myself as a leader through the process. This class really brought together everything we had been learning and showed me what it means to be a citizen leader.”
Outside of school, Zawadi is very passionate about traveling and cooking. He loves exploring new places, experiencing ne cultures, and experimenting in the kitchen!
CONGRATULATIONS, Zawadi!
