Emma Hardin (Online)
Emma Hardin is a Junior from Pendleton, Indiana. She is a student on Fort Hays State University’s online learning platforms, working towards a major in Music with a minor in Leadership Studies. Emma stays very involved in her community by singing with her church choir. She also helps choreograph (and set up) for the Pendleton Heights Show Choirs every January. In her free time when she’s not helping with choir, Emma enjoys baking with her mom as part of their business “Just Roll With It”. Emma joined the leadership programs because she is a teacher and believes that her leadership skills can always be improved. She wants to be the best teacher/leader possible which means constant self-evaluation and always trying to better herself.
“ I’ve really been enjoying my leadership behaviors (302) class this semester. It is helping me realize what kind of leader I am currently and what kind of leader I want to be as I develop my skills more.”
Congratulations, Emma!
Harold Dichoso
Harold Dichoso is an online graduate student from San Francisco Bay Area. He is currently working towards a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Organizational Leadership. Harold serves his community in many ways, including his role as the Young Leaders Program Manager at California Forward—a non-profit organization focused on building a resilient and inclusive California economy through reginal development. He also supports local governments and organizations on workforce development and youth programming. Harld choose to get involved with the Leadership Programs to deepen his understanding of leadership theory and practice to be more effective in his role developing future leaders. This year with the Leadership Programs has been a journey of understanding his own strengths and discovering areas of growth.
“These past ten weeks have been really incredible. The professors are exceptionally knowledgeable and supportive. The content has also challenged me to think critically about leadership holistically instead of just accepting what's already out there.
My favorite module was on Complexity Leadership and Adaptive Leadership. Learning the difference between technical problems that have known solutions versus adaptive challenges that require people to actually change and experiment has completely shifted how I approach my work altogether. I have been fortunate to have work experiences that help me contextualize everything I am learning now, and each time I read text or watch a lecture, light bulbs go off where I’m able to make these crucial connections.
This is something that I am bringing back across all of my programs so that we’re able to think more creatively about how to approach challenges and what tools or mindsets we need to develop to be successful together. The course helped me realize that my job isn't to have all the answers but to set up environments where people feel empowered to grow and step into leadership roles naturally.”
Outside of his work and dedication to community, Harold enjoys creating art through music, videography, and graphic design. He is also into strength training and focusing on turning comfort food into healthy food. He has also just been recently engaged, congrats!
Congratulations, Harold!
