September Students of the Month
Cooper Lindenmeyer
Cooper is a freshman from Hays, Kansas. He is an on-campus student who is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership and is considering pursuing a master’s in organizational leadership as well. His mother was a leadership major and played a big role in helping him get involved in the program. He enjoys the interactive aspect of his courses; he is constantly involved in discussion and group work. He believes that this style of teaching helps him to think outside of the box and be more creative. Cooper stays very involved on campus, participating in a wide range of organizations. He is currently a member of Catholic Tigers, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and intramural sports.
“My favorite leadership class so far is the Leadership Concepts course I am in now. Since I am only in two classes and it is my first semester, I have not been able to experience many of the other courses yet. I love the discussion aspect of the class and how it does not feel like a lecture most days”
In his free time Cooper enjoys outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, watching and playing sports, and anything that involves exercise.
Congratulations, Cooper!
Jessica Vsetcka
Jessica is a senior from Great Bend, KS currently wrapping up her Bachelor of General Studies with concentrations in leadership and business. She first joined the Leadership Programs in her freshman year. After nearly 20 years away from school, Jessica returned as a non-traditional student to complete a bachelor’s degree for both personal and professional growth. As a full-time worker, she realized that even if she never serves in a formal leadership position, leadership can take many different forms. The leadership classes have given Jessica the opportunity to become a better person, stronger employee, and a more effective leader. In this chapter of her life, Jessica is very active in supporting any teams or activities that her children participate in, as well as the many activities of her friends and family.
“Each leadership class I have taken has resonated with me in one way or another. Intro to Leadership set the tone for future classes such as Team Dynamics and Intro/Adv Leadership Behaviors, which have been helpful in enhancing those skills that produce a stronger employee and more effective leader. Women in Leadership and Principles of Civic Leadership are two personal favorites because of its historical and sociological roots. History and Sociology are two of my favorite subjects, and both are rooted in so many other disciplines. The historical roots of women leaders and the injustices women have faced over the years along with other historical and modern social injustices is something that I have a personal interest in. It leaves me thirsty for learning more and becoming more involved in the call for action.”
Outside of her academics, Jessica can usually be found cheering her children on from the sidelines, reading a good book, and visiting food truck and breweries with her husband.
Congratulations, Jessica!
