A FHSU Tiger Logo with the three parts of Faculty and Staff Development: Teaching Support, Scholarship Support and Consultation & MentoringOur Mission: The TILT Faculty Development team collaborates with units across the University in efforts to plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate relevant faculty professional development opportunities in four key areas: pedagogy, scholarly research, service, and professional growth. TILT faculty developers also conduct research on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), the Scholarship of Educational Development (SoED), and other topics relevant to their work.

Communities of Practice

Confidential Consulations
  • Consultation services are available for all faculty. These services are offered by Dr. Robert Luehrs and include class observations, informal discussions, and advice on tenure and promotion procedures.

Faculty Mentoring Faculty
  • This program focuses on two realms of mentoring: functional (teaching, scholarship, service) and psychosocial (relationship-building, networking, understanding university and academic norms).
  • Discussion-based events throughout the year, with topics including tenure and promotion, scholarly activity, student engagement, collaborative learning, online teaching, and other items relevant to FHSU faculty. The program is based on mentoring frameworks from the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and peer-reviewed research on mentoring for university faculty.

New Faculty Orientation
  • New Faculty Orientation provides an opportunity for new faculty to meet their colleagues and learn about university procedures and resources as well as the Hays community. There are both on-campus and online components. 
Professional Development Days

  • Concurrent sessions and workshops on relevant topics in higher education, panel discussions on best practices in pedagogy, research, and service to the profession, and opportunities to network with other faculty and staff

Tenure and Promotion Support

TILT Blog
  • Updated regularly with articles featuring a range of topics, from highlighting current research to spotlighting outstanding faculty. Also features TILT's Knowledge Base, a collection of teaching resources specifically designed for FHSU faculty.
Writing Accountability Groups
  • Writing Accountability Groups meet weekly throughout each semester. Members begin their meetings with some brief time to share their progress over the past week and their goals for that day’s silent writing time. After a silent writing period of about 90-100 minutes, the group members close with another brief period to share the progress they made, and their writing goals for the next week.
