His duties include conducting the Fort Hays Singers, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Men’s Glee Club, and the Smoky Hill Chorale. He is music director of the Fall Musical, supervise choral student teachers, and instructs courses in choral conducting, choral music education, and music appreciation. Professional memberships are in ACDA, NAfME, and the Barbershop Harmony Society.
In the eight years Dr. Crull has been at Fort Hays State University an FHSU choir has been selected six times to perform at the Kansas State Music Educator’s Workshop. The Fort Hays Singers have also toured three times in those seven years; a ten-day tour to Taiwan in June of 2007, a Fall Break tour in 2010 to the Front Range of Colorado, and a Fall Break tour in 2012 to Branson, MO. with stops at eastern Kansas schools both to and from Branson.
Dr. Crull has guest-conducted NW-KMEA HS Honor Choir, SW-KMEA HS Honor Choir (twice), SEKMEA MS Honor Choir, NW-KMEA MS Honor Choir, SC-KMEA MS Honor Choir, and numerous league vocal clinics in Kansas. He has also conducted choral festivals in California, Iowa, Washington, Minnesota, S. Dakota, N. Dakota, Colorado, and Nebraska, and has presented clinics for chora directors for ICDA, SD-ACDA, CO-ACDA, KCDA, KMEA, and numerous school and church music workshops. Dr. Crull has also conducted numerous church choirs, and has been actor, director, musica director, or producer for over eighty musical theater, opera, and drama productions.
Dr. Crull has degrees in choral music education from the University of Northern Colorado (D.A.),University of South Dakota (M.M.), and Dordt College (B.A.). His 34-year career in teaching has included Ontario, CA. (5-8 choir & band), Orange City, IA. (9-12 choir & band), Dakota Wesleyan Univ. (Director of Choirs), Univ. of N. Colorado (Men’s Glee and University Singers), and Fort Hays State.
