PreK-6 Elementary Education Teacher
PreK-6 elementary school teachers plan and deliver instruction in core subjects such as reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. They manage classroom routines, assess student learning, and support students’ academic and social development.
K–6 High Incidence Special Education Teacher
K-6 high-incidence special education teachers provide targeted instruction, accommodations, and support for students with identified learning needs. They collaborate with general education teachers, families, and school staff to support student progress.

Full Admission to the FHSU Teacher Education Program
Applicants must be fully admitted to the FHSU Teacher Education Program before enrolling in upper-level teacher education coursework.
Completion of 60 College Credit Hours
Applicants must have completed at least 60 college credit hours. Approved transfer coursework may count toward this requirement.

Students must complete or be enrolled in TESP 320, MATH 180, and TEEL 340, with a grade of C or higher. Successful completion helps confirm that applicants have the academic base needed for the performance-based BEST pathway.
Employment in a PreK–6 Classroom
Students build their teaching skills while working in an approved PreK–6 general education classroom with support from a sponsoring school district. Program participation includes at least four hours per day in a general K–6 setting and 30 hours of literacy-focused classroom experience each semester. Positions must align with program requirements and cannot serve as the Special Education teacher of record.
