DEADLINES FOR PROGRAM INTEREST PROFILE (PIP) ON TIGER LINK:
- Deadline for Winter Session: Feb. 1
- Deadline for Sommer Session: Oct. 1
APPLICATION PROCESS:
- Submit the Program Interest Profile (PIP) on TigerLink by the deadline.
- Choose Essen, Germany as preferred program
- Students need to submit the following for review for program approval:
- a Program Interest Profile via Tiger Link
- Advisor Recommendation Form-emailed to your Advisor via Tiger Link
- Unofficial Transcript-email to s_lang@fhsu.edu
- After FHSU Approval:
- Study Abroad office will send your PIP to the Essen Coordinator
- UDE will review and approve your exchange
- Once approved, the Essen Coordinator will email you a link to the UDE Online Application
- Submit Essen Online Application per Essen Coordinator
- Choose UDE Classes:
- Complete the UDE Learning Agreement, save, and print for FHSU Signatures
- Email or deliver to Study Abroad Office, Sheridan Hall 204
- Send the Following to Essen Coordinator:
- Signed Learning Agreement (PDF)
- Current Transcript (PDF)
- Copy of Passport ID page
- Receive the FHSU Academic Approval form from Study Abroad Office
- Complete with your Advisor, obtain signatures, and submit to Study Abroad Office, SH 204
- FHSU will register you in a block of credit hours
- Pay FHSU Tuition through TigerEnroll like normal
COURSEWORK/TRANSFERABLE CREDITS:
- German Language courses will require a placement test at ________
- Students will choose courses from the School of Humanities
- Go to this link to review and choose courses

- Student can take___________total hours at Essen.
- Credits will transfer back to FHSU if approved by your Advisor
- Students will submit an Academic Advising Agreement prior to registration and submit to the Study Abroad Office
- Students will pay tuition and fees to FHSU through TigerEnroll
HOUSING:
- Students will live in student residential housing that is off-campus
- Sommerburgstrasse is the name of the residence facility
- Students will provide their own blankets, pillow, and sheets
- These can be purchased for you by request for about 40-50 Euros.
- Students will pay for housing (rent) through a German Bank Account at the local bank called Sparkasse. This account allows online banking and will be set up after you arrive to Germany.
PASSPORT, VISA, & STUDENT ID REQUIREMENTS
- Educate yourself on obtaining a German Visa at this Web site:
- Students will obtain their Visa once they arrive to Germany. Your Essen Coordinator will assist you with this process.
- Students must obtain a Passport prior to international travel. This could take 3-4 months, so allow adequate time for delivery.
- Obtain at least 2 official Passport photos to use with your Passport and Visa application. These are easiest to obtain at Walgreens Photo Center.
- Students will submit a portrait photo in a JPEG format for your student ID card to the Essen Coordinator
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
- Students must provide a financial statement showing financial security and ability to cover the regular cost of living in Germany for the duration of your stay.
- Financial statement options:
- Personal financial statement
- Scholarship award certificate
- Fixed deposit statement
- Written confirmation of parents or sponsor that he/she will cover your costs
- Recommended: a rough letter format from the parent(s) with date, place, and signature brought with the student in paper version and on USB
- Students will open a bank account upon arrival to Germany
HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE
- Students must obtain travel insurance which includes coverage in case of death and repatriation.
- Students must submit proof of insurance to the FHSU Study Abroad office.

- Students will obtain health insurance in Germany. This insurance will cover any regular cost as well as hospital treatment.
