New Student Information
Welcome to Fort Hays State University!
New students must follow these steps to gain access to FHSU technology services!
1. ACTIVATE
- TigerNetID is a unified username and password authentication system for most Fort Hays State University computing resources. See www.fhsu.edu/activate/.
- Set Up MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication): See www.fhsu.edu/technology/mfa.
2. EXPLORE
Our Student Resources page provides quick links for you to easily access many FHSU systems.
- Email: Upon activating your TigerNetID, you can sign in to your TigerNetID@mail.fhsu.edu email. We use Google as our student email platform. This is the official form of communication for all FHSU students. You may already have new emails from FHSU! Please check your student email daily.
- Workday: Workday is FHSU's student web portal, where you can explore your financial and academic information, register for courses, and access other student resources. To view helpful Workday guides and video tutorials, see www.fhsu.edu/workday/student-resources. Note: The Notifications area in Workday is NOT your email inbox. You will be notified by email when various actions are required in your Workday account.
- Friends and Family/Third Party Access: Workday Third Party Access allows students to give another individual (such as a parent) permission to view information or perform tasks on their behalf, such as the ability to view and pay a bill. To designate a third party, the student must complete a two-part process by following instructions on the Third Party Access page.
3. PREPARE & CONNECT
All students registered at Fort Hays State University are expected to have a computer* for use in a variety of university learning experiences. *On-campus students are expected to have a laptop to ensure mobility. TigerTech only provides assistance with accessing and using FHSU-hosted systems and University-owned equipment. FHSU does not sell computers and does not provide computer repair for student devices.
- Hardware: To meet basic security, networking, and upgrade requirements, your computer should be running Windows 11 or macOS 15 (Sequoia), or newer. Ideally, your computer's warranty should be supported by the manufacturer throughout your college career. Highly recommended is having a webcam and microphone for your computer (many laptops have these built in). Ask your instructor or academic department about any specific technology requirements that may apply for each course in which you are registered.
Chromebooks and iPads are not recommended as your primary devices due to limited functionality.
-
TigerPrint: FHSU does not accept the use of wireless printers. Students can print from any device, from anywhere, by swiping their Tiger Card for print copies at TigerPrint stations located on campus.
- Software: Enrolled students receive access to a variety of FREE or discounted software on the first day of classes. Students at FHSU can use Office 365 and more on their personal devices.
- Internet: If you are an on-campus student, you can connect to the TigerNet wireless network using your TigerNetID login. Please register all of your wireless devices, including items you bring to the Residence Halls.
4. LEARN
- Blackboard is a Web-based learning management system (LMS). Enrolled students receive access to their enrolled courses on the FIRST DAY of classes. Most of your questions will be answered by instructors; further Blackboard Support is available on their comprehensive website, including many tutorials and LiveChat. Due to compatibility issues with Safari, we recommend only Chrome or Firefox for the best Blackboard user experience.
- Textbooks: Visit fhsu.vitalsource.com and log in with your TigerNetID to view and order textbooks and other course materials.
