Instructions
1. Start Your Upload
Begin by opening the file uploader. This is your starting point for all file types.
- In the top navigation bar, click "Add Content".
- Click "Default", then select "File" and Continue.
- Wait for the upload modal window to appear, then choose one of the methods below.
2. Upload a Single File
Best for when you need to add descriptive information (metadata) or rename a file for clarity.
- Drag and drop a file into the upload area, or click to browse.
- Edit the File Name: Change the name in the "File Name" field, but do not alter the file extension (e.g., .pdf, .jpg).
- Add Metadata: Click the Metadata tab and enter a clear Title, Description, and any relevant Keywords. This improves accessibility and searchability.
- Click "Submit" to upload the file to your chosen folder.
3. Upload Multiple Files
Best for quickly adding several files at once.
- Drag and drop a folder or a selection of files into the upload area.
- Click "Submit" and begin the upload.
⚠️Important: Files within subfolders will be moved to the top-level folder. To preserve your folder structure, use the Zip Archive method below.
4. Upload a Zip Archive
Best for uploading an entire folder structure in one step.
- Drag and drop a .zip archive into the upload area.
- When prompted, select "Yes" to extract the archive and save its contents directly into the current folder.
- Click "Submit" to complete the upload.
ℹ️Note: Always select "Yes" to extract. Selecting "No" store the file as a .zip, which visitors would need to download and unzip themselves.
Best Practices: Optimize Images
Optimize Images
Large images are the #1 cause of slow websites. For optimal performance, always optimize images before uploading them to Cascade.
If your image is larger than 1 MB, compress it before uploading. You can use any image editing software (like Adobe Photoshop) or an online image compression tool.
To optimize an image:
- Use Web-Ready Formats: Convert your images to WebP (preferred) or JPEG.
- Compress for Speed: Aim for a file size under 1 MB.
- How to Optimize: Use any image editor (like Adobe Photoshop) or a free online tool (e.g., TinyPNG, Squoosh) to compress your image while maintaining good visual quality.
- Upload the Optimized File: Once compressed, upload the image using the methods above.
Next: Creating a Page
