The driving force of the school district, superintendents steer the schools under their guidance on the best course for their students, while bearing the responsibility for budgeting and policy-making. If you are ready to take on the challenges of district leadership, the Department of Advanced Education Programs has two accredited programs to help you satisfy state licensure requirements for school district leadership. All courses - with the exception of one optional course - are available online, which helps you meet your professional goals and graduation time line.
The Specialist in Education with an emphasis Educational Administration prepares you to create a school district where students and teachers can learn and grow, while operating within ever-increasing financial constraints. While you have up to six years to complete your Specialist in Education degree, the coursework can be completed in as little as one year of full-time graduate study. During your program, you will learn new techniques for managing a school district, while sharpening the skills you already possess.
Upon completion, you will be prepared to apply for a District Leadership (Superintendent) license from the state of Kansas. The Specialist in Education in Educational Administration is accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education.
