Learning Outcomes

CLE is a partner in the FHSU mission-themed course initiative designed to connect students to curricular experiences that enhance their development as engaged global citizen leaders. Each theme includes a definition, two learning outcomes (LO), and associated tagged courses that guide student course selection, faculty course design, and institutional assessment efforts.

The tagging initiative directly supports Goal 5 of FHSU's 2024–2027 Strategic Plan, which calls for cultivating impactful partnerships internally, locally, nationally, and globally and demonstrating institutional commitment to developing engaged global citizen leaders.

Global Learning

(GL): Critical analysis of and engagement with complex, interdependent global systems - social, cultural, economic, political - and their implications for people's lives and the earth's sustainability (AAC&U, 2022).

Learning Outcome 1

Student reflection demonstrates internalized global self-awareness and synthesizes multiple perspectives about global issues.

Learning Outcome 2

Students will demonstrate an understanding of global systems and apply that knowledge in contemporary global contexts.

Community/Civic Engagement

(CE): Community/Civic Engagement: Working to make a difference in the civic life of communities by developing the knowledge, skills, values, and motivation to promote quality of life through both political and non-political processes (Ehrlich, 2000).

Learning Outcome 1

Students will assess community needs leading to increased social consciousness.

Learning Outcome 2

Students will reflect on personal values for alignment with a commitment to be an engaged citizen.

Leadership Development

(LD): The process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done, and facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish shared objectives (Yukl, 2013).

Learning Outcome 1

Students will demonstrate various methods by which to collaboratively engage others in work.

Students will draw connections among ideas to use leadership strategies in a variety of contexts.
