Syllabus Statement on Accessibility
Accessibility of Course Materials
Courses at FHSU are designed to be accessible to all learners. In compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and federal regulations effective April 2026, all course content delivered through Blackboard conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.
In practice, this means materials are built around four principles:
- Perceivable (information in multiple formats)
- Operable (keyboard and assistive-technology compatible)
- Understandable (clear and consistent)
- Robust (reliable across devices and screen readers)
You may notice the same information presented in more than one way—this is intentional and reflects our commitment to these standards.
Alternative Formats via Blackboard Ally
To provide a more flexible learning experience, courses utilize Blackboard Ally.
- Next to course files, you will find an icon that allows you to download Alternative Formats.
- These formats include Tagged PDFs, HTML, ePub, Electronic Braille, and Audio (MP3), allowing you to choose the format that best fits your device and learning needs.
Visit FHSU's Blackboard Support for additional help with Blackboard including Ally, Alternative Formats, and ReadSpeaker.
Requesting Accommodations
Accessibility is an ongoing process. FHSU faculty want every student to have the best possible experience in their courses.
- If you encounter a barrier: Please reach out to your professor directly so that the issue can be addressed as quickly as possible.
- To request formal accommodations: Follow the instructions in the "How to Access Services" section.
