Faculty Development

The TILT Faculty Development team provides professional growth in teaching and learning, course design and development, best practices, peer coaching, and more. We collaborate with units across the University to plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate relevant faculty development opportunities in four key areas: teaching, scholarly research, service, and professional growth. TILT faculty developers also conduct research on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), the Scholarship of Educational Development (SoED), and other topics relevant to their work.

Faculty Development Programs
(For All FHSU Educators)

Communities of Practice	Learning communities that meet several times throughout the semester. Organized around a theme.
Confidential Consulations	Class observation, advice on tenure and promotion procedures, and confidential discussions with a veteran faculty member. All consultations are confidential and private. These services are offered by Dr. Robert Luehrs. For more information contact Dr. Luehrs directly at 785-628-4193 or rluehrs@fhsu.edu.
Faculty Mentoring Faculty	This program focuses on two realms of mentoring: functional (teaching, scholarship, service) and psychosocial (relationship-building, networking, understanding university and academic norms). Discussion-based events throughout the year, with topics including tenure and promotion, scholarly activity, student engagement, collaborative learning, online teaching, and other items relevant to FHSU faculty. The program is based on mentoring frameworks from the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and peer-reviewed research on mentoring for university faculty.
New Faculty Orientation	New Faculty Orientation provides an opportunity for new faculty to meet their colleagues and learn about university procedures and resources as well as the Hays community. There are both on-campus and online components.
Online Asynchronous Courses and Hubs	Hosted in Blackboard, we curate multiple courses on a current topics as occasions arise, and courses/hubs with basic information needed to organize and facilitate courses at FHSU successfully for new adjuncts, new faculty, or other educator subgroups.
Professional Development Days	In collaboration with Human Resources, Professional Development Days offer concurrent sessions and workshops on relevant topics for personnel across FHSU. Educators can find panel discussions on best practices in teaching, research, and service to the profession, and opportunities to network with other faculty and staff. PD Days are held at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters before classes start. Watch for announcements and Guidebook for upcoming PD Days.
TigerLearn	A primary portal for all things TILT. This site is updated regularly with articles. resources, TILT's Knowledge Base, and more specifically tailored for FHSU faculty. TigerLearn
