Academic Standing
Undergraduate students at Fort Hays State University are expected to meet academic standards set by the university and to demonstrate satisfactory progress towards earning their degree. Academic standing is a measure of a student's success at FHSU as determined by their cumulative GPA, assessed at the end of each semester in which a student is enrolled at the university. To be in Good academic standing, students must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. FHSU includes all college coursework in the cumulative GPA calculation.
Students are expected to perform at a level which will lead to graduation at the university. In addition to completing degree requirements, a minimum of a C average (2.00 grade point average) is required for graduation, although specific fields may require more than the minimum (for example, elementary and secondary education). When a student's grades reflect that they are not making progress towards a degree by dropping below the cumulative GPA of 2.0, they move out of Good academic standing. FHSU's levels of academic standing are Good, Academic Watch, Acadmic Caution, Academic, Warning, Academic Restriction, and Academic Dismissal. Students are notified at their official university email address (@mail.fhsu.edu) when they do not meet the university academic standard of a 2.00 cumulative GPA and therefore are not in Good standing. Students encounter academic challenges and setbacks. When a student moves out of Good standing, the university sets requirements and provides resources designed to help students improve their academic performance and return to Good standing. FHSU's goal is to support each student's success in reaching their goals and graduation.
