General Education Courses — Minimum Grade of B

- COMM 100 Fundamentals of Oral Communication (may substitute Interpersonal Communication)

Grade Point Average (GPA)
Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 OR a minimum GPA of 2.75 in their last 60 credit hours of college coursework.
Requirements for Field Experience Courses
Students participating in field experience courses, including internships and student teaching, must complete additional requirements before beginning their field experiences.
These requirements include:

National Background Check or Kansas Teaching License: Verification of a clear national background check completed within six months of submission or a current, valid Kansas teaching license. The FHSU College of Education considers background checks valid for four years from the date the background check was completed.

Negative TB Verification: Verification of a negative TB test completed within six months of submission. The FHSU College of Education considers TB verifications valid for four years from the date the TB test was completed.

Professional Liability Insurance: Verification of active professional liability insurance coverage.

Additional Forms: Completion and submission of any other required field experience forms.
Please Note: Placement schools may request updated background check or TB verifications, even if they are still considered valid by the FHSU College of Education.
Important: You do not need to complete or submit field experience verifications when applying for Teacher Education admission. The Office of Field Experiences will provide information on how to access ELC (Experience Learning Cloud), along with instructions for completing and submitting your required verifications.
Other Information
Disposition Assessment of Initial and Advanced Candidates (Policy G.2)
Teacher Education candidates are expected to demonstrate professional conduct consistent with the dispositions established by the FHSU Teacher Education unit. These dispositions are considered throughout the program and as part of the recommendation for licensure.
Approval for Admission
Students must complete all Teacher Education admission requirements before they are eligible for official admission to the program.
Students who have met all admission requirements except for the successful completion of required courses in progress will receive tentative clearance to enroll in restricted professional education courses for the following semester.
Once all admission requirements have been completed and the student's major department has confirmed that departmental requirements have been met, the student's admission materials will be submitted to the Council on Preparation of Teachers and School Personnel (COPTSP) for approval.
Students will receive notifications regarding their application review and official admission status through their FHSU email.
Admission decisions are based on all applicable program requirements and may also consider factors such as repeated coursework and professional conduct.
Inactivity and Progress Toward Admission
Students who do not complete any coursework within two years after submitting their Teacher Education Admission Application must submit a new application and meet the admission and program requirements in effect at the time of reapplication.
