Global Learning
To develop our students into engaged global citizen leaders, we must put into practice our institutional value of “global engagement,” through which we transcend geographic and cultural boundaries. We connect our students to the world through partnerships, experiences, and carefully designed programming that guides students to become good citizens of the world.
Fort Hays State University's mission is to develop engaged global citizen leaders. This co-curricular program puts our mission into action by developing students as leaders, expanding their global knowledge, and driving civic change. Students in this program will graduate with the skills to lead, serve, and impact the world. Requirements include coursework, cross-cultural experiences, and reflection. Students who complete all requirements will earn a special note on their official FHSU transcript.
Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity for our students. It allows them to explore the world and gain valuable experiences. However, we believe that the true power of studying abroad is fully realized when it's part of a broader global learning approach. While traveling is important, it becomes even more enriching when combined with coursework, cross-cultural experiences, and reflection. At our institution, we're committed to providing students with a holistic approach to becoming informed, engaged, and responsible global citizens. Studying abroad is a crucial element of this transformative journey.
Global learning and civic learning and engagement go hand in hand at our institution. We believe that understanding the world and actively participating in our communities are essential aspects of education. When students engage in global learning, they not only gain a broader perspective on global issues but also develop the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact locally. It's about connecting the dots between global challenges and local solutions.
